Our Difference
SeaBright has over 25 years' experience as a workers' compensation insurance carrier. This exclusivity has made us one of the leading specialty workers' compensation insurers in the country and helps us deliver superior results to our policyholders, brokers, and investors:
Exclusive Focus on Workers' Compensation: Every executive, underwriter, claims examiner, case manager, and medical professional working for SeaBright Insurance focuses on one type of insurance - workers' compensation. We're specialists at developing and servicing insurance policies for a range of industries, from small energy and maritime companies to high hazard businesses where the potential for severe injury is high.
Multiple Jurisdictions, Single Policy: Our multi-jurisdictional workers' compensation policies cover land, water, shoreline, or any combination across one or more states in a single policy, while meeting the requirements of all applicable state and federal laws.
Physician-Guided Medical Care: SeaBright pioneered the use of physician-guided care to ensure appropriate medical treatments, reduce lost work time, and lower claims costs. We now assign a physician to oversee medical treatment for all claims that may involve six weeks or more of time loss. Physicians are also available, as needed, for oversight of less complex claims. Experts in Safety and Loss Control: SeaBright loss control experts help policyholders with safety evaluation and education. We partner with brokers and policyholders to help all our customers operate safely, and we support improvements to safety management processes, wherever applicable. The longer that policyholders stay with SeaBright the lower their average experience modification (ex-mod) becomes, which directly affects their insurance premiums. On average, our policyholders' ex-mod is 15 percent lower than the industry average at the end of their sixth year with us. Learn more...
Top Performing Insurance Company: Our services, programs, staff selectivity, and networks of carefully evaluated health care providers are all designed to benefit policyholders by continually improving results - whether it is reducing claims costs, accelerating a worker's return to health, or lowering insurance premiums by improving safety. As just one example, our claims closing rate of 96 percent within five years tops that of the 10 largest workers compensation insurers in California (which represents 20 percent of all U.S. workers comp claims).1 Learn more...
Financial Security: We have received an A- IX (excellent) rating from A.M. Best, the financial strength rating standard for the insurance industry. Our public company status, minimum debt, and significant cash surplus continue to sustain our strong financial position and capacity for growth.2
1 From a study by the California Worker's Compensation Institute for the state of California. Claims-closing performance data comes from Schedule P, Part V, from the annual statements of the top 10 private workers compensation insurance underwriters, as measured by premiums written. For subsidiaries of holding companies, the aggregate data for all held companies was used.
2 A.M. Best ratings range from "A++" (Superior) to "F" (In Liquidation), and ratings from "A++" to "B+" are considered "Secure."
